Transportation

The vast majority of Hanoians – and our teachers – get round the city by motorbike or scooter. These come in many shapes and sizes, from automatics to full manual bikes.

Driving the street here is an experience to say the least. Great care is needed and initially, it’s not for the faint-hearted. The general rule is ‘Slow and Steady’.

Legally you require a Motorcycle License to drive a bike over 50cc in Hanoi. You can obtain one by converting a license from your home country or by taking a Vietnamese Motorcycle License Test. This contains both theory (in Vietnamese!) and a practical.

HR at Language Link can help suggest some providers.

Fuel is reasonably cheap. Expect to pay between 20-25,000vnd per litre.

Taxis – both cars and motorcycle – are extremely cheap. Both Grab and Uber operate here.
Buses are the cheapest way to get around aside from walking, and they are usually reliable once your figure out the route. Bus journeys are around 7,000vnd per ride.
